Gone for Four Days

I forgot to mention that I'll be gone for four days. I will be doing a whole bunch of soul searching and creative revitalization.... and at least a painting a day. I will hit you with that when I get back. For now... take a little vacation from me, and.. Have a great weekend!

Swamp Garden Closing - SOLD

5" X 5" Acrylic on Board. The following is a poem written by Dominique Besse Thomas expressing her sadness over the closing of the swamp gardens in Morgan City. This painting is a tribute to that loss.

HOMELESS HERITAGE - Dominique Besse Thomas

Sticky swamp, subtle sounds of swamp.
Wise ole cypress knees staring at me.
The Swamp Gardens will no longer be .

Our history is homeless.
Can we let it be?

Animals run aray
Children scamper off
Can Tarzan save the day?

Our history is homeless.

Past is present
Present is future
Future is past.
How can we make this last?

Homeless.
Heritage.
History.
How.

Our history is homeless.

Even with my Head in the Clouds I can See Global Warming - $50.00

5" X 5" Acrylic on Board. I've been thinking about doing some more studies in acrylic. And, actually would like to go even more wild and more abstract. It's going to take a whole lot more thinking through. So... I thought I would start with some things that have been on my mind.

Cry Baby Sketch - $50.00

8" X 10" Mixed Medium on 100% cotton paper. Had to run to Houma today for supplies. Stopped by sister Laurie's house to pick up her vehicle... just in time to see the Cry Baby Tree in bloom. Did a quick water color sketch, but am tossing the idea around of a 45" flower in a square. For those who I have not talked to yet... the By Water Art Market was rained out at about noonish. It was the strangest thing... the day was just gorgeous with blue skies... and then it was like the sky just fell. I may have to have a rainy day sale to make up for losses.

French Nude - $100.00

9" X 11" Mixed Medium on 100% cotton paper. I've got several different themes of things I've wanted to paint for some time. One of them is nudes. I'll from time to time throw in one of these small paintings as a sketch for something larger later.

New Orleans on my Mind - $50.00

7.5" X 11" Mixed Medium on 100% cotton paper. I've been very busy with multiple projects going on in the studio. A little bit of jewelry.. a little bit of coasters... a little bit of tile work... a little bit of design... so I could only do a little bit of painting. This is just a quick sketch coming from my head and a tribute to New Orleans. I've got New Orleans on my mind today because I was contacted by the Marriot in New Orleans to be a feature artist for one of there Wednesday night socials. Mark your calendars and meet me at the Marriot on Wednesday, August 13th for entertainment, a wine tasting and complimentary hors d’oeuvres and of course art!

Red Winged Black Bird - SOLD

22.5" X 30" Mixed Medium on 100% cotton paper. I spotted this red winged black bird sitting amongst the cat tails when driving home on highway 90 between Houma and Morgan City. There is a long expanse of swamp on either side on that highway. Many creative inspirations are born along that route.

Tou Tou Lou - SOLD

30" X 22.5 Mixed Medium on 100% cotton paper. Spent the day at my brother's camp at Cypremort Point. These little creatures were running all about on the land. Just fabulous with there one huge claw and one tiny claw... scooting along sideways over the rocks.

One Stem #12 - SOLD

5.5" X 15" Mixed Medium on 100% cotton paper. I got a whole bunch of left brain work done this week.... and ended with a one stem gone wild. Sort of has a tapestry feel to it. I think this is a good way to end the week and start the weekend. Since we're in the left brain this week I thought I would share a few stats with you. The blog has had over 7000 hits since Jan 27th and now boast 66 subscribers! In just four months. While I am just tickled to have these stats... I must strive for more. If everyone of you would get one person to subscribe... well, just imagine... we could keep doubling the subscribers from time to time. With that in mind... One Stem #10 - SOLD

5.5" X 15" Mixed Medium on 100% cotton paper. I'm having a good time creating these funky flowers. Just going with the flow over here. I am feeling an urge to take down an actual door.

One Stem #9 - SOLD

5.5" X 15" Mixed Medium on 100% cotton paper. I will be posting some "one stems" this week. I am catching up on left brain work at the studio and will not have time to do a massive piece this week. (I was really looking forward to doing another grande something) This is good news for those of you who are collecting the smaller works.

Gator Door Art

8.5" X 26" Mixed Medium on Wood. Another in series of my door samples.

Grande Magnolia - $500.00

45" X 45" Mixed Medium on 100% cotton paper. Magnificent in person. The photos do not show the detail and intricacies of these paintings. This wonderful magnolia was inspired from Laurie's big Magnolia tree in her front yard. I couldn't figure out why I had this overwhelming urge to paint that background orange until just now. Because orange is Laurie! Everybody have a great weekend.

Crawfish#2 - $60.00

15" X 22" Mixed Medium on 100% cotton. Sorry guys. The internet was down yesterday and I could not post an image. I am posting this hand water colored silk screen because my Grande Fluer is still wet. Hopefully, by the end of the day it will be dry enough to photo and post.

Whimsy Fish Door Art

26" X 8.5" Mixed Medium on Wood. This is another test for the doors of my kitchen. I'm trying to figure out if it should all be a design that is repeated (not likely in my world) or to do different things that represent the Louisiana culture and lifestyle. You know... magnolia, waterlily, crab, crawfish, alligator, fish. I could take the doors off and do one every other day... and a grande fluer every other day and.. WHAM! there goes a couple months of my life. I don't know... I tell you... it's going to take some courage to actually do it on the doors and not as a sample.

Grande Poppy - $500.00

45" X 45" Mixed Medium on 100% cotton paper. Seeing this fabulous poppy in person is so much more spectacular than veiwing on your screen. What a blast of energy and beauty. I'm kind of going in two incredible directions here between these massive flowers which I absolutely love painting and the wood/stain thing. When in between processes... waiting for a layer to dry on one... my mind and body is moving to the other. No boredom happening over here!

Door Art

13"X14" Mixed Medium on Wood. What is she up to now? I have these unfinished cabinets in my kitchen and need to do something...? I had this crazy idea of painting them in my style but with glazes to let the wood pattern show through. This is my first test. I've also got another grande fleur in the making! and it's going to be cool! Happy Monday.
